SAMA 2008 GOLF TOURNAMENT

Under clear blue skies and near perfect weather, close to 100 golfers teed off for the annual Spanish American Merchants Association (SAMA) Golf Tournament at Keney Park in Hartford on Friday June 13, 2008. The Golfers were greeted by SAMA staff and Board Members as they registered for the event, each golfer received a 2008 SAMA Golf Tournament Jacket along with a supply of tees and golf balls. This year for the first time SAMA was able to produce a program book which highlighted the many sponsors that help make this year’s tournament a success.
Among the many golfers at this year’s event were, the Mayor of the City of Hartford, Eddie Perez Jr., State Senator John Fonfara and State Representative Kelvin Roldan.
All the golfers were treated to a full luncheon at 11:00 A.M. followed by a Shotgun Start at 12:00P.M.; Keney Park Golf Course is a Par 70, 5739 yard golf course, which challenges the skills of the many golfers who participated in the tournament. This years tournament include a $10,000.00 hole in one, a longest drive and closest to tee contest. After all the golfers completed their round of play they were treated a full dinner, which was provided by Brenda Torres and El Criollisimo Restaurant of New Britain CT.
To conclude the day Golf Tournament Chairman Juan Rivera thanked all the tournament sponsors as well as the many volunteers who made this event possible. After dinner was served, prizes to the first, second and third place teams were awarded as well as prizes to the winners of the Longest Drive and Closes to the Tee Contest.
The final event of the day was raffle that included prizes such as Golf Bags, Golf Clubs, Putters and many more prizes. The first place prize was a Flat Screen HD Television which was donated by Angel Sierra and Hispana Vision and Solinsky Eye Care which was taken home by a very happy golfer.
