The Center is dedicated to fulfilling the education mission of Spanish American Merchants Association focusing on six key strategies of management, financial, human resources, technology, health, and safety issues. ELDC is the small business’s premier provider of educational resources, material, and training in English/Spanish for small business owners in the state of Connecticut. The Center offers the following Programs:
Pasaporte Computer Training Program
SAMA has developed and implemented a computer-training program specially geared to Hispanic and minority owned businesses located in the greater of Hartford area, New Haven area and Willimantic Region. The computer training program begins with the introduction to Computer and continue with a basic approach to understanding the basic of baking online, while covering some of the most popular software; then the program goes into an intensive study of MS Office-a popular software program; and finally ends with the merchant learning how to connect onto the Internet information highway. The classes are in English and Spanish languages. |

Construction OSHA Training
This program is needed in order to provide education, information and knowledge to Hispanics that work in the construction field. The need to offer this training is Spanish is critical in that it is within this area where the majority of the Hispanic community is hard presses to find training on the topics of health and safety in the Spanish Language. We have found that the majority of Hispanic employees that work in the construction field, have significant limitations with the English language or have a level of education that is much lower that the majority of the general population and they do not fully understand the risks involved in their field of work. This program would serve as much the employer in providing the information on how to improve safety in the workplace by reducing the incidence o injuries, illnesses and deaths. The principal goal of our efforts is to ensure that all worker return home from their place of work safe and sound. |

Entrepreneur Small Business Training
The Entrepreneurship Training Program (ETP) seeks to develop management skills of individuals interesting in starting their own businesses, especially women and teenage children. The main purpose of the program is to create economic self-sufficiency and jobs within distressed, predominantly Latino areas in the State of Connecticut and strengthens the participants by promoting its collaborations in run business enterprises. 95% of the businesses promoted will be located in the target area, and 100% of the jobs created will be filled by residents of the target area, including at risk youths. |

Hartford Hospital Merchants Health Fair
Educating Small Business Owners to Better Health: Health and its related complexities, has become a major economic and financial issue in the minority small business community. That why SAMA has created the Health Fair for merchants and their employee. After two year of existing we provide services more that 250 merchants. |
