SOVEREIGN BANK GRANTS $15,000 FOR SAMA PROGRAM

HARTFORD- October 2, 2007. Sovereign Bank today presented a check in the amount of $15,000.00 to the Spanish American Merchants Association (SAMA), to help fund the Empresario Latino Development Center, which provides training programs tailored to small business.  The grant will be used to fund the Advanced QuickBooks Training Program.  It is a recent addition to the list of Programs offered by SAMA.  This program is a response to merchants desire to advance in their knowledge of business management skills and is a step up from the highly successful Passaporte computer training program.

Mr. Kevin E. Flaherty, President of Sovereign Bank presented the check to Angel Sierra, President, Ana Sanchez-Adorno, Training Director, and Julio Mendoza, Executive Director all three from SAMA. Julio Casiano, Vice President, Market Customer Growth Mgr for Sovereign Bank and a SAMA instructor, stated:  “I’m very proud to be part of Sovereign Bank's family and to support the community that SAMA serves.  It is an honor to support programs like this, since we are all working together towards the economic development of our communities.

Mr. Angel Sierra, SAMA’s President, stated:  “Sovereign Bank is another partner that supports the Empresario Latino Development Center, a Center that was created with the purpose to provide knowledge and skills in business administration to entrepreneurs and small business owners. 

I appreciate Sovereign Bank's involvement with our Hispanic businesspeople.”

Mr. Julio Mendoza, SAMA’s Executive Director stressed:  “Institutions like Sovereign Bank are what make a difference in our business community. 

This partnership between SAMA and Sovereign Bank is essential to continue with our work.  The need for financial education and technological knowledge is essential and we want to continue making the difference to our businesspeople."

Ana Sanchez-Adorno, SAMA’s Training Director explains:  “The training programs offered by SAMA are of great importance to all businesspeople who want to better their administrative, financial, and technical knowledge.  We want to remind everyone that all the services SAMA offers are free of charge to all businesspeople.  Now that we have our new QuickBooks Advance Training Program we want to extend an invitation to all the businesspeople to come to SAMA and take advantage of the opportunity to take this training for their benefit and the benefit of their business, as well.”
